Summery Writing: (no more than 60 words)Use your own words as fast as possible:

The majority of the worlds population live in cities. Their activities have a large environmental impact. Its estimated that urban aeras are responsible for 75 percent of greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, it stands to reason that its in cities where solutions to improving peoples relationship with the planet should found.

As the list of megacities grows and more and more people move intoo cities, maybe every city should prioritize three issues: mobility, sustainability and socio-diverisity.

When planners are working on mobility issues, cities usually take priority over cars. Although cars have been in production for only a little more than a century, the space they have seized is extremely large. Cars are the cigarettes of the future.

Our priority in improving urban mobility should be to provide reliable and easy-to-use public transportation. Every mode (subway, bus, taxi, bike, etc.) has to operate ideally and be integrated into a transit network. Car shares and bike shares may also have their role.

When addressing sustainability problems, the key is to avoid wasting energy, time and resources. Some simple ways to get started are within everyones reach: Use our cars less and recycle old stuff.

In addition, a citys layout can make a big difference. A healthy city is an integrated structure of life, work and movement. It requires a design that respects the areas ecosystem. Fragmenting cities into areas with specialized functions, in contract, makes these spaces and their infrastructure idle during long periods of the day or night.

When were working on issues arising from diversity, its important to remember that cities must offer hope, not desperation. Cities have long been seen as melting pots. A sense of shared identity and the feeling of belonging to a specific place improves the quality of life. A city must provide reference points to which people can relate__rivers, parks, public buildings.

A citys design must be a collective construct, a shared dream. A city is a setting for people to meet. We must shape its future together. (334)

One Possible Version:(参考)

With the growing population in cities, three issues should be focused on, namely transportation, long-term development and being diverse. More public transportation except cars should be developed. The key to sustainable developnent is saving energy. Peoples sense of belonging to their hometown will be helpful to improve life standard All the above contribute to a sound development of cities.

One Possible Version:(参考)

Should Students Play Jokes On Each Other?

Our students spend a lot of our time in school. So it is important to get along with our classmates. Some naughty students always play tricks on others. But I dont think it is very good to play tricks on people.

On one hand, some people are easy-going, so when we have a trick on them, they never get angry, but sometimes it might really hurt their pride and make them feel embarrassed, they can not stand being fooled in public, which might sometimes cause serious conflicts and terrible consequences.

Therefore, in order to develop good relationship between classmates, wed better not play tricks on others in order not to hurt their self-esteem.

Directions: Read the following three passages. Each passage is followed by several questions or unfinished statements.

 (A)

On September 11th, 1958, Mum gave birth to Richard. After she brought him home from hospital, she put him in my lap, saying. “I promised you a gift, and here it is”. What an honour! I turned four a month earlier and none of my friends had such a baby doll of their own. I played with it day and night. I sang to it. I told it stories. I told it over and over how much I loved it!

One morning, however, I found its bed empty. My doll was gone!I cried for it. Mum wept and told me that the poor little thing had been sent to a hospital. It had a fever. For several days, I heard Mum and Dad whispering such words as “hopeless”, “pitiful”, and “dying”, which sounded ominous.

Christmas was coming. “Don’t expect any presents this year”, Dad said, pointing at the socks I hung in the living room. “If your baby brother lives, that’ll be Christmas enough.”  As he spoke, his eyes filled with tears. I’d never seen him cry before.

The phone rang early on Christmas morning. Dad jumped out of bed to answer it. From my bedroom I heard him say. “What? He’s all right?” He hung up and shouted upstairs, “The hospital said we can bring Richard home!” “Thank God!” I heard Mum cry.

From the upstairs window, I watched my parents rush out to the car. I had never seen them happy. And I was also full of joy. What a wonderful day! My baby doll would be home, downstairs. My sacks still hung there flat. But I knew they were not empty; they were filled with love!

B. Think how lucky you are to have someone to love.

C. It does not make you a bad person to desire someone else’s love.

E. Do not expect to be loved back in exactly the same way.

F. There are many different ways to explain love

Every person has a great deal of love to give. There are many different ways to love someone (or even yourself). Here is a general guide to loving.

Say it. When you say the words “I Love You”, make sure you really mean it, and are willing to do anything for that special person.

___54___ If you love someone, you should understand how they feel, where they come from, and who they are. Realise how they could also love you back just as well.

Love unconditionally. Giving unconditional love requires you to love without any expectations. __55___

It seems difficult to only love and not demand anything in return in today’s world where everyone is selfish. But even in this world we see many examples of unconditional love, for example the love a mother gives to her child and the love between two life partners. To love unconditionally, you will have to learn to sacrifice yourself and your desires and also realise that someone may have a different way of showing his or her love for you. __56__

Realise it can be lost. If you realise that you can lose the one you love, then you have a greater appreciation of what you have. ___57__ Don’t make an idol of the person you love. This will place them under unnecessary pressure and will likely result in you losing them.

Never stop loving. Even if you have been hurt before, you should not stop giving love.
