There once was a man who went to India. At that time, people could never travel by plane, by train or by car. So the man walked to India which he had never visited. And when he got there, he was excited to see a lot of fruit. It was much expensive than that in his own country. At last, he found a big basket of red, long fruit and it was the cheapest in the shop. He bought a kilo and started to eat it. But after he ate some of it, Oh, my God! His eyes watered, his mouth burned and his face became red. He jumped up and down, but he continued to eat the fruit!
Some people who were looking at him shook their heads and said, "You're crazy, man. Those are chilies! You can't eat so many and they're not good for you. They are not fruit!" Then the man said, "No, I can't stop. I paid money for them, and now I'll eat them. It's my money!"
And you think that man was stupid, right? In fact, we sometimes do a lot of things like that. We spend a lot on the work, business or jobs. And even though we know there's no more hope that things will change, we will continue just because we've put money, time and love into it. So even if you've lost something, let it go and move on. Two frogs lived in a village from the day they were born. They thought they would like to go and see the big city that was about ten miles away.
They talked about it for a long time, and at last they started. It was a hot day, and they soon began to feel tired. However, they only went a little way. One frog said to the other, "Do you think we are near there now? Can you see the city?"
"No," said the other frog, "But if I climb on your back I might be able to see it." So he climbed up on the back of the other frog to see the city.

Dear Zach,
I'm sorry that you can't have a cat or dog at your new home. However, you can get a goldfish to keep as a pet. There are some things you should know about goldfish before you buy one. Don't pick the biggest goldfish at the pet store. Look for the healthy one that swims the fastest.
You should get a fish tank. Then, you can get more than one goldfish. Don't feed you goldfish too much food. It won't eat very much. The extra food will stay at the bottom and make the water look dirty.
You can put a few things in the fish tank, but don't put too many. Everything you put there must be very clean. Your goldfish could get sick if you put dirty stones there.
Once one of my goldfish became sick, I didn't know what to do, so I called Mr. Andrews at the pet shop. He told me to take the sick goldfish out of the tank. In a few days, it was swimming around and looked healthy again. Then I put it back in the big tank with other fish.
I like having goldfish. I think you will too.

Dear Lisa,
In your last letter you said that Chinese people were really friendly to the people they knew but careless about the people they didn't know. Don't worry about it. Smile at them, and I think they will give you smiles, too.
I went to Germany 2 years ago on a business trip. I stayed there for a month. When I got there I spoke only a little German, so I asked a Chinese who owned a restaurant for help. He picked me up from the hotel in the daytime, and sent me back at night. And sometimes he would not let me pay for the meal.
I'm sure that if you need some help in China, those Chinese around you will be ready to give you a hand. So don't worry about living in China. And I heard that your college is the best one in China. I believe your life there will become better and better.
Yours
John

Do you enjoy seeing movies? I am a big movie fan myself. Last Sunday, I watched "Shakespeare in Love" on TV. It was a movie about a greatest writer in England. You may have never heard of his name, but you may know his plays well. One of his well-known plays, "Romeo and Juliet," is still very popular now. It is a tragedy and many people are moved to tears because of the impressive plot (感人的情节). His other plays are also the classics, such as "Hamlet", "Midsummer-Night's Dream" and so on.
In the movie, Shakespeare was so handsome and outstanding that many girls loved him. But he only loved Viola, someone else wife. The ending of the movie was sad because they loved each other deeply, but they couldn't get together. The sad ending made me cry, but it also made me like the movie more. Now I can't wait to see "The Twelfth Night." It is said that Shakespeare wrote it for his best love.
