每天步行一万步就健康吗?
Regular walking has many health benefits, including reducing our risk of heart diseases, type 2 diabetes and depression. Best of all, it's free. We can do it anywhere and, for most of us, it's easy to fit into our daily activities.
We often hear 10,000 as the golden number of steps to walk in a day. But do we really need to take 10,000 steps a day? Not necessarily. This figure was firstly popularized as part of a marketing campaign, and has got some criticism. But if it gets you walking more, it might be a good goal to work towards.
Where did 10,000 come from? The 10,000 steps idea was firstly formed in Japan in the lead-up to the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. There was no real evidence to support this number. Instead, it was a marketing strategy to sell step counters.
There was very little interest in the idea until the turn of the century, when the idea was revisited by Australian health promotion researchers in 2001 to encourage people to be more active.
Based on more evidence, many physical activity guidelines around the world including the Australian guidelines recommend at least 150 minutes of physical activity a week. This is the same to 30 minutes on most days. A half hour of activity is to about 3,000 to 4,000 steps at a moderate pace.

太空漫游不是梦!美国一基金会计划于2025年建成太空旅馆
It has been 50 years since American astronaut Armstrong—the first man—stepped on the moon and we are still dreaming of exploring outer space. Perhaps a career as an astronaut is not for you. You might be more interested in floating among the stars in a space hotel.
The Gateway Foundation is a company in California. It has recently announced a plan for the world’s first commercial space hotel. The hotel looks like a huge wheel. It is made up of 24 modules. There will be guest rooms, restaurants and cinemas. Tourists can also enjoy fun sports, such as low-gravity basketball and rock climbing. It feels quite different from the earth because the gravity is low and you can pull things farther with the same strength.
The company hopes that space will become a great new vacation destination. The space hotel will be open to the public in 2025. Space tourism is expensive — Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic plans to launch passengers into sub-orbital space at a high price of $250,000 per person, per trip.
Given the design is still exactly — just a design — there are some questions we need to answer about how the space hotel will work in actuality. For example, it’s been suggested that living in low gravity for an extended period of time is damaging to the human body. While vacationers will probably only visit the hotel for a few weeks, workers will plan to be there for six months to a year.
1. What can we learn about the space hotel?
A. It is designed like a large square.
B. It will be built by American government.
C. It allows people to do everything they like.
D. It will provide many entertainment activities.
2. Why is doing sports on the space hotel different from that on the earth?
A. Because doing sports on the space hotel is easier.
B. Because the gravity on the space hotel is low.
C. Because the ball on the space hotel is smaller.
D. Because people get more strength on the space hotel.
3. How much should you pay if you want to go to the space hotel with your parents for a trip?
A. $250,000.
B. $500,000.
C. $750,000.
D. $1000,000.
4. How long could a waiter work in the space hotel?
A. At most a year.
B. At least a year.
C. At most 6 months.
D. At least a few weeks.
